Human Resources Co-op Work Term - Summer 2022
Co-op students in the three-year Human Resources Advanced Diploma program are seeking a work term for May 2022 to August 2022. Co-op requires students to complete full-time, paid work for 12-14 weeks that is directly related to their college program. Field Placement is an integral part of the Durham College Human Resources - Business Administration 3 year Advanced Diploma program. During Field placement, students partner with an organization's human resources staff, completing a variety of objectives, and obtaining valuable insights into the workings of an HR department. Field placement provides students with the opportunity to put the theory they have learned in the program into practice and to develop their skills. Students are available for 208 hours of placement, Thursday and Friday of each week from approximately January 13, 2022, to April 22, 2022.

Looking to elevate your organization, and bring it to the next level? Bring on students from Durham College to be your student-consultants, in a project-based experience. Students will work on one main project over the course of the semester, connecting with you as needed with virtual communication tools. Students in this program will learn how to plan, prepare and produce an event by using event management knowledge and processes. Students will be required to identify and work through each phase of event management – Initiation, Planning, Implementation, Event and Closure. Students will also look at the various aspects of business travel including booking travel and accommodations, itineraries and expense reports.

Student-consultants will work in groups of 5 to apply their knowledge in marketing to help your organization seize a marketing opportunity, develop a strategic marketing plan, or solve a current marketing challenge. Students will gather and analyze data in order to identify key strategic issues and develop actionable recommendations - including an implementation plan - to help your organization achieve its goals.
Digital Experience Design & Thinking

This course teaches the fundamentals of digital experience design (UXD) and testing. Students will apply best practice techniques learned in the course to evaluate the effectiveness of marketing websites and apps against defined business objectives. Key topics covered include, human-centred user experience (UX) design, cross-channel UX, information architecture (IA), digital product design, and techniques for evaluating the marketing effectiveness of interactive systems.

During their final semester project management graduate student teams are assigned a cumulative total of 600 hours to work on a project to either develop a Project Management Plan, conduct research etc., for a project of your choice. Using Project Management Theory guided by PMI standards, students will determine the breakdown of work of a future project for your organization, including project requirements, risks, costs, timelines, and responsibilities to drive the implementation process.

For more than 45 years, the Sport Management program at Durham College has provided students with the unique opportunity to receive vital on-the-job training as they prepare for their chosen career in the business of sport. The purpose of this component of their education is to apply the knowledge gained through extensive classroom preparation and study. There are, in fact, TWO distinct academic programs in sport management at Durham College: Sport Management, three-year diploma program Sport Business Management, one-year graduate certificate program All students from both programs will have the following availability: Five days a week (Mon-Fri) for 15 weeks from January 2021 to April 2021 A total of approximately 500 hours over the duration of the placement Due to COVID-19 restrictions, student placements will predominately occur virtually but can be on-site with approval.

The purpose of the field placement experience is to give CPA students the opportunity to: Apply the skills and knowledge they learn in the CPA program in an authentic work environment Receive feedback and mentorship from an experienced IT professional Establish and build professional connections in the IT community Acceptable field placement experiences: A field placement position/assignment/project must be a practical, quality experience related to the student's program of study and the student must report directly to a supervisor or manager. The work assigned at the placement must allow the student to apply and be evaluated on at least ONE of the IT Skills listed on the Placement Evaluation checklist. All field placements must be approved by the Field Placement Coordinator. The field placement is 160 hours and is scheduled for April 5th, 2021 to April 30th, 2021. Students from Contemporary Web Design program will use these digital assets to create websites and web applications.
